The Journey of O.K Chinda

Hon. Kingsley Chinda, a devoted husband and father, is a prominent Nigerian lawyer and lawmaker, renowned for his founding role in the Public Interest Lawyers League (PILLS). His journey into politics commenced during his undergraduate years, where he made history as the first Ikwerre student to serve as the President of the Students’ Union at what was then Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), now rebranded as Rivers State University (RSU). He further honed his leadership skills within the Senate of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In secular politics, O.K Chinda, as he’s popularly called, served as Legal Adviser of the Grassroots Democratic Party from 1999 to 2004. In 2004, he became Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), until 2005 when he served as Legal Adviser at the Obio/Akpor Local Government Secretariat. From 2009 to 2010, he served as Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, a short but impactful tenure.

In 2011, Kingsley embarked on his legislative career by securing his first election to the 7th House of Representatives, representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State. During the 7th Assembly, he distinguished himself as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, alongside active participation in various other committees.

His commitment to excellence propelled him to subsequent re-elections, notably in the 8th House, where he assumed the pivotal role of Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts (PAC). During this tenure, he spearheaded the digitalization of committee activities, earning accolades such as the Peace Corp Award for “Meritorious Lawmaker.”

Continuing his trajectory of impactful leadership, Kingsley emerged as a beacon of constructive opposition during the 9th term, serving as the caucus leader for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). His vocal and pragmatic approach to addressing pertinent issues within the House earned him further recognition, including another Peace Corp Award for “Constructive Opposition.” Throughout his tenure, he has actively sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills and motions, underscoring his commitment to legislative excellence.

Until April 2026, Kingsley Chinda held the esteemed position of Minority Leader in the 10th House of Representatives. He remains a member of the House of Representatives, where he continues to ardently advocate for the interest of the people of Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency and Nigerians generally with unwavering dedication and resolve.

Currently, he is the Rivers State Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
